Bristol Harbourside 'stylish' rooftop bar and restaurant plans revealed

Proposals for a new rooftop bar and restaurant next to Bristol's historic harbour have been submitted to Bristol City Council for review. The plans would see Building 11, which currently houses Rainbow Casino, Lane 7, Locked in a Room and BrewDog, remodelled to create a new outdoor food and drink venue with scenic views of the harbourside across Millennium Square and the Lloyds Amphitheatre.

The planning application, submitted by Canada Life Asset Management, involves inserting a mezzanine floor in the building giving direct access to an exterior "pergola" bar and dining space, while an existing outdoor area on top of the building would also be redesigned to create an accessible roof terrace and garden.

Following a public consultation in December, some changes have been made to the proposals, which include extra acoustic screening and an upgrade to a ‘green roof’.

The council will now perform a statutory consultation, providing further opportunities to comment on the proposals before making a final decision on the scheme. If the application is approved, work will begin in October this year for a June 2024 opening.

Currently Rainbow Casino occupies two floors of the building. The changes would allow it to downsize while remaining in its existing location and create a new function for a "void area" that sits above the third floor.

A Canada Life Asset Management spokesperson said: “The view from Building 11 across the harbourside is spectacular. This is a real opportunity to convert a redundant area into a stylish new rooftop food and drink venue for Bristol.”
