A Bristol tech company that collates activities on its online marketplace platform has generated more than £1.7m in revenue for businesses.
Yuup was developed during the first lockdown in 2020 to help hundreds of small creative business owners offering experiences in the city - such as art, exercise and food classes - to reach a wider audience.
The fast-growing company, which said it had sold 70,000 experiences since its launch, has since expanded its service to Bath and Birmingham. It is aiming to make more than £3m for local communities across the three cities this year.
Yuup said more than 60 of the ‘host’ businesses it had recruited across Bristol had come from the most deprived areas of the city. The enterprise has set a target of 25% its hosts to come from the top 50% of most deprived areas in England.
Founder and chief executive Dominic Mills said:“One of the things I’m most proud of is Yuup’s ability to enable some of the more ethnically diverse neighbourhoods to share their cultures and skills with others in the city.
“Some examples are the communities of St Pauls, Stokes Croft, Easton and Lawrence Hill, where we have recruited a diverse range of hosts offering world drumming, traditional African and reggae dance, supper clubs, and indigenous storytelling experiences.”
Mr Mills, who has a background working for digital agencies and set up Yupp with five former colleagues, said he came up with the idea for the platform after trying to buy an experience gift in Bristol and struggling to find the right thing.
