Bristol Dementia Action Alliance (BDAA), a local charity, is celebrating its 10th anniversary with three special events on July 6th, 7th, and 9th. The events will take place at Westbury Baptist Church and will include a birthday celebration, a memory café, and a church service.
On Thursday, July 6th, from 2:30-5pm, BDAA will host its 10th Birthday Celebration. The event will feature short presentations, refreshments, birthday cake, and a visit from the Lord Mayor. Attendees will have the opportunity to reflect on the charity’s achievements over the past decade and learn about its plans for the future.
The following day, Friday, July 7th, from 2-4pm, BDAA will host its Happy Days Café. This monthly event is designed for people living with dementia and their carers. The birthday edition of the café will include a Silent Disco.
On Sunday, July 9th at 10:30am, Westbury Baptist Church will hold a service celebrating BDAA’s 10 years of service. The charity was founded at the church on July 9th, 2013.
This year is particularly exciting for BDAA as it has launched its own Dementia Aware Villages pilot project in Shirehampton. The project aims to increase awareness of dementia in local communities. Once completed, BDAA plans to expand the project to other areas of Bristol.
With an estimated 900,000 people living with dementia in the UK and around 5,000 in Bristol alone, BDAA’s work is more important than ever. The charity is part of an alliance of similar groups throughout the UK that are working to make their communities more dementia aware.
BDAA founder Tony Hall said: “It is such a privilege to be celebrating 10 years of BDAA. My wife Barbara and I set this up following a public meeting at Westbury Baptist Church asking the question ‘Is Bristol a Dementia Friendly City?’ Now here we are in the next exciting chapter of the charity with big plans for the next 10 years.”
All events are open to the public and everyone is welcome to attend.
