Bristol dance troupe Dark Angels to appear in E4 street dancing documentary

Thirty young street dancers from Bristol are set to appear in E4 documentary, Street Dance: Against the Odds, as they face the biggest challenge of their lives. Bishopsworth dance group Dark Angels, part of the Angels Dance Academy, led by charismatic director Charlie Bedford, are aiming to win two gold medals at the world championship hip hop dance competition.

But before his two top teams can go global, they must make it through the national competition hip hop championships in Bournemouth. However, with a cancelled season and months out of the studio as a result of the pandemic, this will be an uphill battle.

Despite a remarkable trophy haul so far, Charlie has bigger ambitions this year for his two teams and will stop at nothing to ensure that they are in with a fighting chance for success. He is determined for his elite team Dark Angels and his younger, less experienced all girl team Dominon Premier to both win gold, and each dancer will have to push harder than ever before to prove they deserve places on the teams.

This is not the first time the group has appeared on television, as Dark Angels made it through to the live shows of BBC's The Greatest Dancer back in 2020. With their jaw-dropping fast paced routine, the 12 dancers impressed the judges, and were Oti Mabuse's pick of the day.

Street Dance: Against the Odds follows the dancers both in and out of the studio as they juggle a gruelling training session with their everyday lives. From bin men to college students, and childcare workers to school children, they will grapple with their physical and mental health, friendships and relationships as they try to keep all their plates spinning in a bid to have their most successful season ever.

These five months will really prove that anything can happen in a season and there are no second chances.

The first episode will follow Charlie and the teams as they emerge from the pandemic with just 12 weeks until the qualifying nationals, and it's not long until Charlie realises he has taken on too much, too soon. His top team 'Dark Angels' have two new dancers in their midst, best friends and bin men Brad and Sam. When they don't impress, Charlie realises that he may have to make some drastic decisions that will leave the group reeling.

Meanwhile, his less experienced girls team 'Dominon Premier' are struggling and top dancer Rosie aka ‘Stadds’ battles with mental health are impacting her performance in the studio. With the nationals just weeks away, Charlie is hoping his teams can step up and shine - but have they all got what it takes?

Street Dance: Against the Odds will air on Thursday, March 3 on E4.
