Bristol has seen a big drop in Covid-19 cases, as deaths in the area continue to remain at a low level.

At the same time, Bristol has a case rate of 414.3 cases per 100,000 people. The areas which surround Bristol are all experiencing similar drops in coronavirus case levels. In North Somerset, 951 cases were recorded in the week up to February 27, a fall of 22.4 per cent, while in South Gloucestershire there was a drop of 24.6 per cent.

On February 24 - the last day from which data is available - 0.3 people were dying on a daily basis within 28 days of a positive Covid test in the city, based on a seven day average. The last time that death levels were that low was on November 15, 2021, before the arrival of the highly contagious Omicron variant.

And Bristol only reported three Covid-related deaths in the seven days up to February 25. These trends are reflected on a national level, too - the UK's average daily death rate on February 24 was 93.1, a level which has not been seen since August 2021.
