Bristol City to lay on buses to get fans to women's games

After the success of the England women's football team winning the European Championships, Bristol City are to lay on buses from the city centre to their women's team home games.

The Bristol City WFC team play at the Robins' High Performance Centre training ground at Failand, which has a capacity of 1,500, after switching to the new facility from Stoke Gifford last year. With increasing demand to see top quality women's football in Bristol, the Robins are laying on two buses each way to all home games - apart from the ones that are scheduled to be played at Ashton Gate itself.

Bristol City Women play in the FA Women's Championship, the second tier of English women's football. They had been in the WSL but were relegated in 2021 and narrowly missed out on a swift return to the top flight last season with a third place finish, although City striker Abi Harrison was the top scorer in the division with 17 goals.

The women's team play at the Clevedon Road training facility and generally their league games kick off at 3pm on a Sunday. The club has pledged to put on a bus service from the city centre to the Failand ground, with two trips scheduled to get fans to the game.

The buses will depart from The Haymarket stop next to Primark, and then stop C7 in St Augustine's Parade, near the Hippodrome. There will be a third stop for fans near Ashton Gate at the Ashton Bridge - the stop for Winterstoke Road - before the bus heads up the hill to Failand.

For a 3pm kick off the buses are departing from the Haymarket at 1.50pm and 2.30pm, and for a noon kick off they will depart at 10.50am and 11.30am.

After each game, the buses will depart at 5.10pm or half an hour later, with the return stop at Bower Ashton. The buses are the same cost as the AG services that run from park and rides across Bristol to Ashton Gate for the men's team matchdays - that's £4.90 for adults, £2.90 for under 21s or students and free for bus pass holders or the under-5s.

Bristol City Women's last pre-season friendly is at home to Reading this Sunday, kicking off at 3pm, and the first home league game of the season is on Sunday, August 28 - at home to Blackburn Rovers in the FA Women's Championship - again, kick off at 3pm. Tickets are £8 for adults, but with discounts for members, pensioners and under 25s.

Some women's games this season will take place at Ashton Gate Stadium itself - the first being played in BS3 is the clash against Southampton on Sunday, September 25.
