Bristol City have been given a fitness boost ahead of this weekend's game against Sunderland with defender Tomas Kalas returning to training. The Black Cats head to Ashton Gate on Saturday to take on Nigel Pearson's Robins, with Sunderland looking to build on their Championship opening weekend draw at home to Coventry while Bristol are looking for a reaction after they conceded in injury-time to lose at Hull City.
And Kalas could come into Pearson's thinking, with BristolLive reporting that the Czech Republic international coming through a full training session after five months out of action through injury. Kalas has not played since March 10, and underwent groin surgery before suffering another injury problem over the summer which meant he was unable to play a full part in City's pre-season.
He did not play a part in any of the Robins' friendlies and Pearson has avoided putting a timescale on his return, however Kalas took part in a full training session today. Striker Antoine Semenyo, who spent a loan spell at Sunderland in 2020, has been sidelined with a shin problem and it is unlikely he will be fit to play against the Black Cats.
