Bristol City player ratings vs Luton: Sykes and O'Leary come out with credit after tough evening

Max O'Leary - 7

Had no chance with the opening goal as Morris' header found the corner. Saved Pring's blushes with a good tackle following a short backpass. Kept City in the game with a save to deny Morris in the second half. Stood up to Luton's aerial threat.

Mark Sykes - 7

Made a crucial block on the line to deny Luton from doubling their lead after 12 minutes which was almost as good as a goal. Handed a good test up against Doughty and dealt with him well throughout the game. Managed to get forward when possible, and provided an opportunity for Weimann for City's first shot on target.

Zak Vyner - 6

A really tough battle up against Morris who caused him problems in the air. Misjudged a header in the first half which almost proved costly. Took time to settle into the game and wasn't provided time on the ball to get City playing out of the back. A strong performance in the second half.

Cam Pring - 4

A difficult start when his misplaced pass was punished with Luton's opening goal. Somehow escaped a red card when Adebayo broke through on goal. A forgetful opening 45 minutes but improved in the second period which he deserves credit for.

Jay Dasilva - 6

A difficult first half, pinned in his own half, and like his team-mates, was forced into mistakes with the ball under the intense pressing of Luton. Looked more comfortable as the game went on but couldn't provide that attacking width when City moved into a diamond in midfield.

Andy King - 5

Three games in eight days looked to have caught up with the midfielder who struggled to deal with the intensity and energy of Luton's midfield. Morris dropped deeper to play on him, limiting his time on the ball.

Alex Scott - 6

Tried to get City ticking going forward but forced his passes at times under the constant watch of Allan Campbell who barely left his side all game. Fired a free-kick straight at Horvath with 10 minutes to play. Did his job defensively but marked out of the game for long periods.

Andi Weimann - 5

Struggled to get himself on the ball and get City forward in the first half. Gave the ball away frequently and was forced to sit deep to help quell the attack of Luton. Took more risks in the second half and matched Luton's energy just lacked composure when in possession.

Anis Mehmeti (off 60, Taylor-Clarke) - 5

City couldn't get him on the ball in the first half - moved into a central role to get more involved towards the end of the first half. Livlier in the second period, showing glimpses of his quality and slowly getting into the contest before being taken off.

Nahki Wells (off 60, Bell) - 5

Again, so isolated in the first half. Must have been so frustrated chasing long balls with little success. Cornick moved alongside him to offer support but still found it difficult to get into the game before his substitution.

Harry Cornick - 5

Had sympathy for Cornick in the first half, playing on the right. Wasn't handed an option when he had the ball and therefore either gave it away, or was forced to play backward. Moved into a central striker role but lacked service against his former club. Did have a glimpse of goal in the second half but lacked conviction with his effort.

Substitutes

Sam Bell (on 60, Wells) - 6

City looked to take advantage of his pace by freeing him down the channels. Outmuscled on a couple of occasions but handed the Luton defenders a different test on his introduction.

Omar Taylor-Clarke (on 60, Mehmeti) - 6

A positive impact from the young midfielder who provided energy and grit in the midfield in a tough game to come into.

Subs not used: Haikin, Wilson, Tanner, Francois
