Bristol City owner Steve Lansdown has revealed Alex Scott has been offered a new contract at Ashton Gate amid increasing interest in the England Under-20 international from a number of Premier League clubs.
Scott has started all-but one of City’s 27 Championship matches this season, after 35 starts last term, and has become an indispensable member of Nigel Pearson’s side now playing in his favoured central midfield role.
The January transfer window has predictably brought fresh focus on the 19-year-old with a host of top-flight clubs considering making an official approach for the Guernsey-born starlet.
Last week, the Telegraph reported that Wolves had made enquiries but their interest has cooled over City’s £25million valuation, while speaking on Saturday CEO Richard Gould claimed the club had turned down bids for up to five players, and while he didn’t reveal exactly who, strongly indicated Scott was one.
Bournemouth, Tottenham Hotspur, Leeds United, Leicester City and Brighton & Hove Albion are among the Premier League clubs to have been linked with the teenager but City remain in a position of strength and can drive a hard bargain.
Scott is under contract until 2025 but Lansdown has stated that the Robins want to extend that agreement while, presumably, also offering the midfielder a pay increase.
"He's attracting attention as you'd expect but he's signed for Bristol City for another two and a half years too," Lansdown told BBC Radio Guernsey. "We're keen to extend that further and he's got a contract offer on the table, but we know there'll be people interested in Alex.
"We're not looking to sell him so he's a Bristol City player and that's the end of the story at the moment."
Scott only signed his first professional contract with the club in March 2021, before a new deal followed five months later after he broke through into the first set-up under Pearson where he has since made 72 appearances for the club.
City have been unsuccessful with two contract offers for Scott teammates over the last 12 months as Antoine Semenyo and Han-Noah Massengo have both rejected fresh terms as the Robins have looked to protect their assets.
Having first been presented with a new contract in December 2021, Massengo is now running his original deal down ahead of expected exit in the summer on a free transfer.
And while Semenyo has a 12-month option until the summer of 2024, if the Ghana international isn’t sold in this window, he will have to be in the next with the striker showing little inclination of tying himself down to an extension beyond next year.
