Bristol City legend Brian Tinnion drops hint about his future amid Forest Green Rovers links

Bristol City legend Brian Tinnion looks to have no intention of leaving the club after posting a message on Twitter declaring, “home is where the heart is”.

Bristol World last week reported that the City academy chief was under consideration for the vacant director of football role at League One Forest Green Rovers.

The Gloucestershire side are searching for a replacement for Rich Hughes, who along other things was instrumental in bringing now-City full-back Kane Wilson to New Lawn, after his departure for Portsmouth.

Cheltenham Town’s Mickey Moore is another candidate being looked at by Dale Vince but Tinnion appears to be remaining in BS3.

On Saturday morning, the former midfielder posted a picture of a sun drenched Robins High Performance Centre with the message, “home is where the heart is”.

Bristol Live also understands Tinnion rejected the chance to speak with the League One club. He has played a hugely influential role in the development of many of the youngsters who are now first-team staples under Nigel Pearson.

His contacts and close relationship with Guernsey FC boss Tony Vance enables Alex Scott to sign three years ago as a 16-year-old, while he also recruited Antoine Semenyo from SGS College.

Both the midfielder and striker have been instrumental for the Robins over the last 12 months and, when the time comes, look set to net the Robins substantial transfer fees.

City’s age group sides also continue to impress with the Under-21s unbeaten so far this season and the pathway from academy to senior side now stronger than it’s ever been.

There are presently nine academy graduates who are part of the first-team squad this season, with a further five on loan to aid their development and the likes of Raphael Araoye, Seb Palmer-Houlden, Tommy Backwell and Jamie Knight-Lebel set to make the step up in the coming years.

Tinnion made 551 appearances for City from 1993-2005, fourth on the all-time list, scoring the famous winner at Anfield that knocked Liverpool out of the 1994 FA Cup.

He served an unsuccessful stint as manager following Danny Wilson’s departure in 2004 but returned to the club nine years initially as director of youth recruitment before becoming loans manager and now head of the club’s academy.
