Bristol City defender to end seven-year Robins stay with interest in League One

Taylor Moore’s seven-year stay at Bristol City is coming to an end as the versatile defender will be released next month when his contract expires, with interest across League One and Europe.

Bristol Live understands the Robins will not be activating the one-year option they hold in his agreement signed in 2020, and he is free to seek opportunities elsewhere.

Moore has spent the season on loan at Shrewsbury Town working under Steve Cotterill and has impressed during his time in Shropshire, making 48 appearances and operating in defence and central midfield as the Shrews finished an impressive 12th, despite possessing one of the smallest budgets in the division.

It’s been apparent for some time that the 26-year-old is not part of Nigel Pearson’s plans moving forward and the publication of City’s retained list will confirm his exit from the club when his deal expires next month.

Shrewsbury are understood to be one of the clubs who have made Moore an offer but the former England Under-20 international has further interest domestically and on the continent as he speaks fluent French having started his career in the Lens academy.

Moore signed for City in 2016 and has made 60 appearances for the club, including 28 during the 2020/21 season which prompted the club to extend his contract when Dean Holden was in charge. However, he’s increasingly been marginalised by Pearson who first loaned him to Hearts and then Shrewsbury, and contact since has been minimal ahead of his anticipated exit.

Another individual who will be leaving the club next month is Han-Noah Massengo who has two more games of his loan spell at Auxerre remaining after playing 90 minutes in their 2-1 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain on Sunday night.

Massengo has largely impressed during his time at the Stade de l'Abbe-Deschamps and is likely to have offers from within his homeland having forced his way back into the France Under-21 squad. With two games remaining, Auxerre are a point above Nantes in the final relegation place in Ligue 1.

Pearson allowed the 21-year-old to leave on loan in January after Auxerre agreed to pay the remaining six months of his contract at Ashton Gate as it had been clear for some time that Massengo had no intention of signing the new contract he was offered in December 2021.

The other senior players approaching the ends of their contracts at Ashton Gate are Tomas Kalas, Jay Dasilva and Andy King, with Pearson revealing the former two have been offered new deal, on reduced wages, while the manager is keen to keep the latter as player/coach.

Decisions are also required around young duo Josh Owers and Owura Edwards, who remains on loan at Ross County in the Scottish Premiership, with City holding a 12-month option in his deal.
