Bristol City confirm full pre-season schedule with no matches taking place at Ashton Gate

Bristol City will face six teams over the course of pre-season after the Robins confirmed their full schedule in the build-up to the 2022/23 Championship campaign.

Having released away fixtures against League One Plymouth Argyle and Premier League Bournemouth earlier this month, City have announced they will play four additional matches at the High Performance Centre and, although there will be no general sale of tickets due to the reduced capacity at the training ground, all will be available to be streamed by season ticket holders free of charge.

City played three pre-season fixtures 12 months ago at the HPC - Celtic, Portsmouth and MK Dons - before switching to Ashton Gate for their final game against Aston Villa. City state no matches will take place in BS3 until the start of the season due to the shortened break this summer to allow for the World Cup in Qatar and the need for surface to recover.

City last played at Ashton Gate on April 30 against Hull City, but Bristol Bears played a Premiership fixture on May 20, while the stadium has also played host to concerts by The Killers and will welcome Elton John on June 22.

League One Cheltenham Town will be the first visitors to Failand this summer, followed by Portsmouth and then a double header against Forest Green Rovers and Exeter City.

Nigel Pearson will also be taking his squad on a training camp to Europe at the end of June at an as-yet undisclosed location but any matches and training sessions will be behind closed doors.

Earlier on Friday, City confirmed that they will be offering free tours of the HPC for season ticket holders under the age of 12 on Monday, June 27, Tuesday, June 28h and Wednesday, June 29.

Bristol City pre-season fixtures

  • (H) July 6 vs Cheltenham Town (2pm)

  • (H) July 12 vs Portsmouth (2pm)

  • (A) July 16 vs Plymouth Argyle (3pm)

  • (H) July 19 vs Forest Green Rovers (2pm) | Exeter City (4.30pm)

  • (A) July 23 vs Bournemouth (3pm)

Having undertaken physical testing last week, City’s squad will start pre-season at the HPC next week with new signings Kane Wilson, Kal Naismith and Mark Sykes part of the squad.

Midfielder Alex Scott will be away with England Under-19s at the European Championships in Slovakia, while Antoine Semenyo’s shin injury will rule him out. There is also the possibility that Andi Weimann and Nahki Wells will be permitted a longer break having played for Austria and Bermuda, respectively, in the Nations League earlier this month.

The Championship season will kick off on the weekend July 30/31, with fixtures released on Thursday at 9am.
