The FA have charged both Stoke and Bristol City following the scuffle that occurred during the away victory on Good Friday.
Just moments before the half-time whistle, Jacob Brown and keeper Dan Bentley were involved in a comical tussle that saw the pair locked in a tangle before falling over the advertising hoardings.
It was sparked when Bentley attempted to shield the ball out of play for a goal kick before the pair came together. Both players then seemed reluctant to let go of one another, leading to a melee of bodies getting involved in front of the travelling away supporters.
Bentley and Brown, who both took the incident in seemingly good nature after sharing a small embrace, were both booked for their part in the incident while Joe Williams and Stoke's Steven Fletcher also received yellow cards after getting themselves involved in the melee.
Video footage also appeared to show Potters midfielder Joe Allen controversially raise his arm towards the face of Williams when he got himself in between Bentley and Brown.
The FA admitted they were reviewing the incident on Tuesday and have today opted to charge both teams for failing to control their players.
A statement posted online read: "Stoke City FC and Bristol City FC have been charged with a breach of FA Rule E20.1 following their EFL Championship fixture on Friday, 15 April, 2022.
"It is alleged that both clubs failed to ensure their players conducted themselves in an orderly fashion during the 45th minute of the fixture." Stoke City have until Monday, April 25, to respond to the charge."
There was no further incident throughout the match and manager Nigel Pearson was keen to downplay the tussle at the full-time whistle where he admitted it "made him smile."
Pearson added: "They were two stubborn players who didn't want to let go and officials dealt with it pretty well. I hoped it wasn't going to be one of those silly ones when players were shown red cards."
Although it remains unclear what the punishments will be until next week, the end result is likely to end in a fine although Bentley will be hoping he doesn't receive a ban for his role in the melee with just two games remaining of the season after Saturday's trip to Pride Park.
