Spotting a hot air balloon floating through the air is always a magical sight and this weekend (from Thursday, August 11 to Sunday, August 14) the skies will be filled with hot air balloons above Bristol. The annual Bristol Balloon Fiesta is back.
Decorating the skies across Bristol will be many different air balloons of all different shapes, sizes, and colours. The main location for the event is Ashton Court, where the balloons will be taking off from.
Popular spots to watch the Balloon Fiesta from include Leigh Woods, Dundry Hill, Clifton Observatory, Troopers' Hill, Clifton Downs, Bedminster Park, Victoria Park, and Brandon Hill which are all in Bristol. With the heatwave predicted to last over the weekend it is set to be the hottest Bristol Balloon Fiesta and the firework displays have been cancelled due to the increased risk of fires in the hot weather. There will be several big displays across the weekend and here is everything you need to know.
When are the big displays at the Bristol Balloon Fiesta?
There are several big displays taking part across the weekend, from sunrise ascents to night-time shows.
Thursday, August 11
At 6pm on Thursday, August 11 there will be a mass ascent in memory of prolific balloonist and fiesta friend Phil Dunnington. Gates to Ashton Court open at 12pm for the public.
At 9pm there will be Night Glow where around 20 balloons will gather, tethered to the ground, for the Night Glow.
Friday, August 12
It is an early start on Friday as at 6am up to 100 hot air balloons from across the world will take to the skies. There will be another mass ascent at 6pm on Friday.
Saturday, August 13
Another early start on Saturday with a 6am morning mass ascent and then a 6pm mass ascent too. There will also be a night glow event taking place at 9pm on Saturday.
Sunday, August 14
The final day of the festival will see another 6am morning ascent and a 6pm evening mass ascent.
