A Bristol author has published his second book whose central character is a young man who finds himself working at a support hub for adults with mental illness and learning difficulties. Owen B Lewis, who lives in Easton, worked at a day centre himself in his home town of Abergavenny in Wales and wanted to write a fictional account based on his experiences.
The 32-year-old writer fell into support work almost accidentally after college before studying creative writing as a mature student in Bristol. He published his first novel, The Waterfall Warrior in September 2021. He said the fantasy novel gave him the confidence to write a second book - Vulnerable Voices - which is based on his own experiences that meant so much to him. His aim was to tell a story that revealed the humanity of the characters, rather than being defined by their diagnoses.
