Bristol Airport warning to travellers as part of A38 will be closed

Part of a major road and airport route will be closed for maintenance tomorrow (Saturday, July 2). Bristol Airport is urging motorists and anyone travelling along the route - be it to catch a flight or otherwise - to plan ahead.

The A38 South of Bristol Airport, between Ashley Lane and New Road, will be closed for maintenance by North Somerset Council tomorrow, between the hours of 6am and 2pm. In a tweet from the airport, motorists and passengers were being urged to "allow additional journey times and follow the diversion signs in place".

This is not the only disruption that motorists are said to be facing in the coming weeks - next week will see nationwide fuel protests which will have major impacts on motorways here in the south west, while airline staff look set to strike during the coming summer months.

Major disruption is expected on Monday, July 4, as protesters block all of the motorways serving Bristol to campaign against soaring fuel costs. Motorists have been urged to plan ahead as several key routes are likely to be affected, including the M4 Severn Bridge between England and Wales in both directions.

Police say that a slow-moving roadblock is also planned on the M5 between Bridgwater and the Almondsbury Interchange from around 8:30am, which is likely to head east towards Bristol via the M4 and M32. From there, there is a possibility the same protest could be carried out along the same route towards Somerset.

It is expected that the protests may also have knock-on effects on other roads, as drivers seek alternative routes. The protests are said to be around the cost of fuel.

And airlines including Ryanair, easyJet and British Airways have announced that staff are expected to strike during the summer months, with some taking place as early as next weekend (July 9-10).
