Irish airline Aer Lingus’ regional services operator Emerald Airlines has announced a new service linking Bristol Airport with Cork.
Flights between the South West transport hub and the southern Irish city will operate six times a week from the end of April. The move marks an expansion of the airline’s operations in Bristol, where it already runs flights to and from Dublin, seven days a week.
Rupert Lawrie, commercial director at Bristol Airport said: “This partnership further strengthens the air links between the South West of England and Ireland and extends the options available to customers in the region when selecting to fly from their local airport. We look forward to working with Emerald Airlines in the future and continuing the joint partnership.”
Ciarán Smith, head of commercial at Emerald Airlines added: “Today’s announcement is a much-anticipated one and will no doubt be warmly welcomed by passengers travelling for both business and travel pleasure purposes.
“With more flights and more choice for the travelling public, we are progressively bolstering our 2023 schedule, with over 2.5 million seats on sale, across 28 routes and 17 destinations in Ireland, UK, and Channel Islands.”
The Cork service is the latest route to be announced at Bristol Airport, with a number of carriers, including SWISS, RyanAir, Jet2 and EasyJet all increasing their activity at the airport in recent months.
It comes after a legal challenge to Bristol Airport’s controversial plans to expand its maximum capacity from 10 million to 12 million passengers a year was dismissed by a High Court judge in January.
The airport is set to proceed with a major investment in its terminal building, parking facilities, and public transport links, which it has said will help it create 800 jobs across its operations and boost the South West economy by an estimated £430m.
