A Brisbane man has been charged with attempted murder after allegedly stabbing another man in the neck with a syringe before being apprehended by off-duty police officers.

Police allege a 40-year-old man, Jonothon Mark Spence, approached a 67-year-old man at his home on Constitution Road in Windsor just before 2pm on Monday.

Police allege there was a verbal dispute and the Mr Spence stabbed the resident in the neck with a syringe before off-duty police officers intervened.

It's believed the two men are known to each other and police have not identified any ongoing threat to the public.

The 67-year-old was taken to the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital in a stable condition.

Mr Spence, of Albion, was charged with attempted murder.

He had his matter briefly mentioned in the Brisbane Magistrates Court on Tuesday afternoon.

He did not appear, and his lawyer asked for his matter to be adjourned.

Police prosecutors asked for a disease test to be ordered and it was granted by a magistrate.

Mr Spence's matter will return to court later this month.
