Sergio Romero didn't leave Manchester United on the best of terms. Relegated to third choice behind David de Gea and Dean Henderson by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and receiving limited minutes, the situation grew sour until the Argentinian goalkeeper asked to leave Old Trafford.
His wife took to social media to vent her frustrations at United at one stage, saying on her Instagram account: "Sergio Romero worked hard for this club. Last trophy they won, they lifted it with him. He helped the team reach 4 finals/semi-finals and then he was left on the bench only to lost them all. It's time for them to return the opportunity and let him go. RESPECT FOR ONCE!"
During his time at the club, Romero was between the sticks for the entire of United's 2016/17 Europa League campaign under Jose Mourinho, which they won, but of course he then made way for the emerging talent of Henderson and was even forced to train alone. The goalkeeper was allowed to leave the club on a free transfer at the end of the 20/21 season after six years at the club and he joined newly promoted Venezia in Italy on a one-year contract.

But the Manchester Evening News understands that despite his less-than-ideal exit, Romero would be open to returning to Old Trafford this summer, as the club once again look for a backup to De Gea. A source close to the 35-year-old stated 'he would always come back' if an offer was made.
