Brimmond marks best financial year to date

Brimmond has announced its best financial year yet, achieving £6.5m in turnover; a 10% increase from the previous year.

The Kintore-based firm, which specialises in the design, manufacture, rental and repair of lifting, mechanical and hydraulic equipment, is now forecasting a £10m turnover for the 2023/24 financial year.

It has experienced rising cross-sector demand over the past six months.

In the energy sector, projects have included the design and manufacture of four 55kW hydraulic power units for export to the Middle East and two constant tension power units for export to west Africa.

Several marine crane and operator rental projects have been deployed across a range of decommissioning work - including plug and abandonment and concrete mattress recovery - while the company also designed and manufactured a six-tonne, electrically-driven umbilical reeler for a European nuclear power plant.

In response to the continued demand, Brimmond has embarked on a recruitment campaign across the engineering, commercial and administrative disciplines.

There are currently 40 members of staff, up 42% since January 2022, with a further five positions to be filled within the next three months.

Recent growth has also prompted a £250,000 investment to build a new 1300ft² extension to the facility in Kintore, with a dedicated area for fabrication and welding.

In addition, Brimmond is set to invest a further £750,000 in expanding its rental fleet, adding another high-capacity marine crane, as well as more core products, including hydraulic power units and umbilical reelers.

Managing director Tom Murdoch, said: “Brimmond’s success story, particularly over the past year, is testament to the unstinting commitment and first-rate skills of our team.

“Our hands-on technicians and engineers work hard on products and solutions that are not only safe and reliable, but also designed to meet the operational and maintenance needs of our clients globally.

“Equally, on the commercial side, we have steered the company through several positive developments, not least our rebranding exercise, which pulled together our four historically separately branded divisions under the strong Brimmond brand.

“Our new website reflects this exciting step-change in the business, projecting our ambitious plans for the future, while remaining true to our heritage.”

Established as a family business 27 years ago by Tom's father, Alistair Murdoch, Brimmond is best known for work in hydraulic, mechanical and electrical products and services across sectors including marine, renewables, energy, decommissioning, defence, nuclear and subsea.
