Brilliant volunteer celebrates 11 years of service to charity

A man who volunteers at a charity shop in Thornbury is celebrating 11 years of service this month. Adrian Millar, 49, who has both learning and physical disabilities, devoted one or two days a week to Break - a charity that provides services to vulnerable children and young people.

Adrian, who is supported by national learning disability charity Hft, says he originally sought the volunteering opportunity as he likes to help others. He was introduced to the charity shop by a friend who had been working there at the time and thought that Adrian would be a great addition to the team.

Living in Bristol, Adrian travels to Thornbury by bus to undertake his shifts at the shop. Using public transport alone can be difficult for a person with a learning disability, however being independent is very important to Adrian and he also says he values being a part of the community - something he dubs his favourite part of the job.
