Brilliant footage emerges from key Nottingham Forest transfer meeting

Nottingham Forest's latest signing Taiwo Awoniyi could not hold back his emotions as he signed a contract to confirm his move to the City Ground.

The 24 year-old has finally been given the chance to play in the Premier League after completing a club record transfer from German club Union Berlin to Forest.

Awoniyi kicked off his professional career with Liverpool back in 2015 but it has not been an easy ride for the Nigeria international. The talented forward endured six loan spells away from Anfield, eventually converting a temporary move to Union into a permanent deal last July.

He has now been able to achieve his Premier League dream by joining Forest. In footage from his contract signing, the 24-year-old was unable to hold back his emotions before putting pen to paper.

The video, shared by journalist Ojora Babatunde, showed Awoniyi putting his head in his hands whilst his agent flicked through the terms of his Nottingham Forest deal. Forest's head of football administration, Taymour Roushdi, approaches him shortly after the Nigerian international lifts his head.

"I’m very excited to be here at Nottingham Forest,” said Awoniyi following his move to The City Ground. “It’s always been my dream to play in the Premier League and having spoken to Steve Cooper about our ambitions and looking at Forest, with its great history, it’s a club that I want to be part of."

Forest head coach Cooper confirmed Forest fought off interest from other Premier League clubs to sign Awoniyi. He brings an exciting record with him after 20 goals in 43 appearances last season.

“There’s been a lot of interest of Taiwo from other Premier League clubs, and others club across Europe, so we’re delighted that he’s chosen Nottingham Forest," Cooper said.

“Our recruitment and coaching teams have been monitoring his progress closely over the last few months. He’s a player who we really believe in and we look forward to him going on to fulfill his potential and become a top Premier League striker with Nottingham Forest.”

Forest could soon make their second signing of the summer, with goalkeeper Dean Henderson expected to arrive on loan from Manchester United with an option to buy. Full-backs Issa Kabore of Man City and Neco Williams of Liverpool have also been heavily linked.
