Brighton can't compare with size of Celtic as Hoops hero hails Ange Postecoglou

Paul Lambert says there is no comparison between Celtic and Brighton as he heaped praise on Parkhead boss Ange Postecoglou.

The Aussie gaffer has been mentioned as a 'strong contender' on a list of targets the Seagulls have to replace Graham Potter following his decision to leave the club to take over at Chelsea following the sacking of Thomas Tuchel.

Postecoglou has been a revelation since taking over at Celtic last summer. He recaptured the Premiership title from Rangers in his first season while also adding the Premier Sports Cup to complete a domestic double. His leauge triumph secured Champions League group stage football this term with the Hoops coming up against Real Madrid, Shakhtar Donetsk and RB Leipzig in their section. The 57-year-old has also impressed in the transfer market with the likes of Kyogo Furuhashi, Liel Abada, Matt O'Riley, Jota, Cameron Carter-Vickers, Joe Hart and Reo Hatate all arriving under his watch.

It probably comes as no surprise his success has made clubs stand up and take notice, but with reports over the weekend stating Postecoglou wasn't interested in making the move from Glasgow to England's top flight, Lambert couldn't blame him.

He said: "I think that talk will go hand in hand with him because of how well he is doing here.

"But if you are talking about size of clubs they can’t compare with Celtic. There is no comparison.

"You can compare the leagues without a doubt but the job he has got here is huge, he has got European football here and hopefully the club can go and continue getting Champions League, can continue getting points on the board, can continue qualifying.

"Because that will entice bigger and better players to come if they see the club getting Champions League football.

"If he keeps doing well here then it will be up to him to make a decision if teams in England or in Europe come for him. But if he manages to maintain the success he’s had here he might not want to leave."
