Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy drops first trailer confirming Mark Darcy's fate

The first trailer for Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy, the highly anticipated fourth instalment of the film franchise, has finally landed.

It has been almost nine years since the last film, Bridget Jones’ Baby, was released and the near-three-minute clip reveals that a lot has changed since then for protagonist Bridget, played by two-time Oscar winner Renée Zellweger.

She is now a single mother-of-two following the death of husband Mark Darcy (Collin Firth) four years previously, after he was killed on a humanitarian mission in the Sudan.

A lot of familiar faces are back including Hugh Grant as Bridget’s love rat ex Daniel Cleaver, her friends Tom (James Callis), Jude (Shirley Henderson) and Shazza (Sally Phillips), Emma Thompson as gynaecologist Dr Rawlings and Jim Broadbent as Bridget’s father.

A new face in the cast is One Day’s Leo Woodall, who stars as a potential new love interest for Bridget, with Chiwetel Ejiofor portraying the headteacher of her two children.

While it may have been more than two decades since cinemagoers were first introduced to Bridget, she appears to have retained a lot of the characteristics people first fell in love with.

The new trailer sees her get stuck up a tree and fall flat on her face during a school camping trip, plus, share some heart-warming moments with her off-spring.

Directed by Michael Morris, Bridget Jones: Mad About The Boy is based on the fourth book by Helen Fielding, who has penned the script, with contributions from Abi Morgan and Dan Mazer.

The film is due to be released in UK cinemas on 14 February 2025.
