Bridgend's outgoing mayor has said he has had an "eventful" year in office as he reflected on the events of the past 12 months. Martyn Jones took on the ceremonial role for the county borough last May and decided to defy convention by not having an official consort with him when attending events as mayor. Instead the Labour politician opted to bestow his "plus one" to different residents so they could get a taste of mayoral life.
Cllr Jones, who represents Garw Valley, took the position in one of the more turbulent times in recent British politics that saw no less than three prime ministers, the death of the Queen and a cost of living crisis that has left many across the country struggling to make ends meet.
