A newly married couple have been blasted after they posted pictures that were taking on a level crossing on their wedding day.
Earlier today (Thursday, May 26) Network Rail posted an image of a bride and groom who used train tracks for an impromptu photo session alongside the message: “This is NOT what ‘getting your marriage back on track’ means!”
The newlyweds were originally spotted standing on the tracks near Whitby, North Yorkshire in July 2020 and their actions were slammed as ‘stupidity’ which could have easily ended in both being either seriously injured or killed.
Today, social media users have so far been responding to the post with disbelief.
“What a lovely photo - they’re gonna be swept off their feet by the love train... formally know as the Arriva cross county express,” tweeted one.
Another added: “Isn’t it funny how nobody wants to take their wedding photos in the middle lane of the M25 - but they seem desperate to do it on a railway?”
The couple were among a spate of trespassers on Britain’s railways over the last couple of years, with many cases involving people wanting to use the train tracks as a backdrop for photos, report Daily Star.
Speaking at the time, Superintendent Alison Evans of British Transport Police (BTP) condemned the behaviour.
“The railway is not an appropriate or safe setting for a photographic backdrop, no matter how scenic the setting,” she said.
“Every time someone strays onto the rail network they are not only putting themselves at risk of serious, life-threatening injury but also delaying essential journeys.”
Network Rail also launched its You vs Train campaign in partnership with BTP to highlight the issue.
Allan Spence, of Network Rail, added, “Wedding photos or selfies on the track are just plain stupidity.
“We often warn families at this time of year as kids enjoy school half-term holidays but now we are also appealing to adults.”
