A man who took his friend's car and led police on a chase through Bristol before crashing has been jailed. Daniel Field came to police's attention as he drove the Suzuki Swift into the city on the M32 at 6am on a Sunday morning, Bristol Crown Court heard. (April 3, 2023)
After pulling alongside them he beeped his horn, left the motorway at Junction three, he went through a red traffic light and police lost sight of the vehicle. After doing laps around the Braggs Lane area - where he drove towards three men - the father-of-two crashed the car into a wall. He and two passengers then ran off and he was arrested.
Field, 27, of Bower Hill in Melksham, pleaded guilty to aggravated vehicle taking and attempting to cause serious injury by dangerous driving in August 2021. Judge William Hart jailed him for 18 months.

The judge told Field: "I would be failing in my public duty if I did not send you to prison today." Field was banned from driving for 33 months.
Alec Small, prosecuting, said it was near the Coach and Horses pub where Field attempted to ram into three men standing by a wall. Police followed him as he took a circular route in the area before he lost control, crashed into a wall and he and two passengers fled.
The court heard the car was damaged to the tune of £2,432. Repairing the wall cost £1,000.
Susan Cavender, defending, said: "He has really matured enormously in the last couple of years. He has turned quite a significant corner in the last 18 months and has been in permanent work as a bricklayer."
