Brickbat: Texas Two-Step

Social media messaging app Discord has agreed to a Texas court order requiring it to introduce the same age-verification it already uses in the United Kingdom. Within 90 days, Texas users will not be able to access certain content unless they are verified as adults. The agreement came after Texas sued Discord under its consumer-protection law, arguing that the platform did not do enough to protect children from sexual predators and other dangers. Discord does not admit wrongdoing, and the lawsuit will continue toward a trial in 2027.
