Brian McFadden has been criticised for using an ableist and derogatory slur after he took to Twitter to condemn anti-monarchists.
The former Westlife singer shared a video of an anti-monarchist protest outside the Houses of Parliament in London on Wednesday morning.
Defending the monarch, Brian responded to the video saying: "These mongoliods all look the same. F***ing creeps. Same numptys that glue themselves to sh**".
The singer misspelt the word 'mongoloid’, which was adopted from the 19th century word Mongol and means to refer to a person who has Down's syndrome.
In modern English, this use is now unacceptable and considered offensive, according to the Oxford dictionary.
Though some agreed with Brian's remarks about the protest, others slammed his use of the term.
They said: "mongoloids" what an absolutely disgusting and disrespectful word to use! Please remove it. I hope you never used this knowing where it derived from. Disappointing Brian, I would have expected better from you!"
Another said: "I agree! I don't think @BrianMcFadden even know what the word "mongoloid” means. Pls google and find out! That is a very offensive, discriminating word to use! I am not even going to get involved about the protests but I am def want to get involved with the word used!"
While a third wrote: "I think that's your career gone down the jacks. What a horrible word to use…. it's so wrong. The hurt you've caused families…and by the way apologies of or pleading ignorance, not accepted."
Last month Brian was left unrecognisable after he had an allergic reaction to a bee sting.
Posting on his Instagram account, Brian shared a video of himself singing 'I'm sexy and I know it', in which he appeared with extremely red and swollen lips, cheeks and eyes.
He captioned the video: "Stung by a bee and got an allergic reaction!! Owning that look! Free Botox and fillers!!!!!"
Fans flocked to his comment section to express their concern for the star.
One said: "Omg good you are ok though".
Another said: "Ooh that's nasty, my worse nightmare take care".
While a third said: "I don't know how to react.... either sad or laugh Get better soon Brian!!!!!"
A fourth then commented: "How am I supposed to leave you now, when you're looking like that lol feel better!! @brianmcfadden123 ".
He then posted a series of snaps of his face captioned: "The time line of the sting to reaction. Still goin".
The snaps showed the swelling had reduced somewhat, but the singer was still in relatively poor nick.
