LSU Tigers head coach Brian Kelly was very disappointed following the Tigers’ Week 1 loss to Florida State.
LSU fell apart in the second half against a talented Florida State team that is expected to compete for an ACC championship. The Tigers weren’t as physical as Florida State and allowed the Seminoles to score 31 straight points in the second half. LSU needs to regroup while it is still in College Football Playoff contention.
Buy Bulldogs TicketsIn a postgame press conference, Kelly noted the Tigers might have gone in to the game with the wrong mindset.
We must’ve thought we were the two-time defending national champion Georgia Bulldogs or something. We were mistaken.
LSU had a successful season in 2022, when the Tigers won the SEC West. However, LSU still lost four games last year and is off to a rough start in 2023.
Brian Kelly’s quote is an interesting one considering Georgia football’s mindset. The Bulldogs are always seeking to improve regardless of the opponent.
Kelly came into the Florida State game with a ton of confidence. He thought the Tigers would beat the Seminoles, but Florida State proved him wrong.
“We’re gonna go beat the heck out of Florida State,” Kelly said on his radio show in Baton Rouge.
Kelly took some of the heat for his team’s performance in Week 1. The Tigers deserve credit for scheduling a challenging opponent in the season opener. Most college football teams schedule teams outside of the Power Five conferences to start the season. That will not stop LSU fans from being upset at how the 2023 season has started.
Brian Kelly: “We certainly are not the football team I thought we were. We need to do a much better job developing our football team. We clearly were short in a lot of areas and that falls on me.”

Georgia played LSU in the 2022 SEC championship, which was a 50-30 Georgia win. The Tigers have lost every season opener since winning the national championship in 2019.
