During a recent press conference with the media, defensive coordinator Brian Flores spoke on the benefits of having Justin Jefferson for the Minnesota Vikings’ defensive backs, specifically, second-year cornerback Akayleb Evans.
“I don’t think there’s a better guy for him to compete against on a day-to-day basis,” Flores told the media. “[Jefferson is] one of the better receivers in our league…speed, quickness, route-running, releases, you’re not going to see a better opponent…there’s a lot of great receivers in this league, don’t get me wrong, but he’s up there with them…that should give all of our DBs this feeling that…it doesn’t get much worse than this.”
There are many benefits to having an elite-level player on your roster. There is their other-worldly talent that cannot be replicated and the feeling that the team is never out of the game, no matter the circumstance.
There is also the fact that they are making everybody around them better every day. The unit that benefits the most may be the ones that oppose them day after day, especially the younger guys.
Evans, Mekhi Blackmon, Andrew Booth, and all of the Minnesota defensive backs will be better because of having to guard Jefferson daily.
