Over the entire NFL landscape, only the woeful Carolina Panthers had a worse opening Sunday to the 2024 season than the New York Giants. Big Blue got smacked by Sam Darnold’s Minnesota Vikings, as rookie phenom receiver Malik Nabers subtly distanced himself from the struggling Daniel Jones after the loss.
Now, with the Giants trying to rebound against the rival Washington Commanders this Sunday, head coach Brian Daboll has a straightforward solution for letting Nabers loose in the New York offense.
For one, and stick with me here: You actually have to make a concerted effort to get Nabers the ball. WHOA, what? No way.

Daboll’s Captain Obvious answer of frustration aside, simply throwing Nabers the ball probably isn’t that easy for the Giants. Nabers could be prime Randy Moss right now, but I’m still not sure Jones would find him downfield. Getting an open playmaker in space really might be like reinventing the wheel for this specific quarterback.
With that said, the Commanders’ secondary is awful. That could be construed as an understatement, too. Don’t be surprised if the Giants stick true to their “principles” and, you know, execute basic, quality offense.
