Post-Brexit rules for millions of people living in Britain have been declared unlawful by the High Court.
Campaigners celebrated their victory after a top judge ruled that part of the EU Settlement Scheme - set up for EU citizens in the UK - was unlawful. Under the rules, EU citizens who had lived in Britain for more than five years by December 31, 2020, could apply for ‘settled status’.
However, the 2.6 million individuals who had been here less than five years could only apply for ‘pre-settled status’. They then have to make a second application later on for settled status - and if they don’t, they could lose their rights, The Mirror reports .
