Brewers’ Willy Adames Couldn’t Hide Euphoria After Meeting Childhood Hero Derek Jeter

There are some people who believe you should never meet your heroes. And, then there’s people like Brewers shortstop Willy Adames, who couldn’t pass up a chance on Saturday to meet one of his childhood heroes, Derek Jeter.

Adames and Milwaukee were in New York for a matchup against the Yankees, which saw the 49-year-old Jeter recognized for the first time at the club’s annual Old-Timers’ Day ceremony before the game.

As Jeter exited the field, Adames seized the opportunity and darted out to shake the Hall of Fame Yankees legend’s hand. The best part of the interaction, however, came after the two finished exchanging pleasantries, when Adames, perhaps caught in a flashback to his 12-year-old self, turned and ran back to the dugout looking very psyched to have met his hero.

While the Brewers went into Saturday’s road game with the same objective, it’s clear by Adames’ euphoric smile that the 28-year-old didn’t mind focusing on being a fan over winning for just a moment. And, honestly, who could blame him?
