The Brewers are placing shortstop Willy Adames on the seven-day injured list after he was struck in the head by a teammate’s foul ball during Milwaukee’s 15–1 loss to the Giants on Friday.
Adames sustained the injury in the second inning, when a line drive from third baseman Brian Anderson line drive sailed into the Brewers’ dugout and appeared to hit the shortstop while he sat on the bench.
Later in the game, NBC Sports Bay Area’s commentators reported that Adames was transported to a local hospital for “tests and scans.” On Saturday, Milwaukee manager Craig Counsell provided a much more positive outlook on the shortstop’s status.
“All the news has been good,” Counsell told reporters ahead of the Brewers’ game against San Francisco Saturday. “He’s in very good spirits. Everything checked out well medically. So now it’s just today, especially, a day of recovery.”
Counsell also said that Adames would not be with the team for its next series against the Blue Jays, but hoped to have him back for the following three-game set against the Reds.
The Brewers called up infielder Andruw Monasterio from Triple A Nashville to replace Adames. The 27-year-old shortstop is hitting .205 with nine home runs and 27 RBIs so far this season.
