Brewers’ Adames Struck by Teammate’s Foul Ball in Dugout, Taken to Hospital

Willy Adames left the Brewers’ game against the Giants on Friday after he was struck by a foul ball from his teammate Brian Anderson during the bottom of the second inning.

The Brewers shortstop was sitting in the dugout when Anderson smacked a line drive that hit Adames on the left side of his head. The 27-year-old immediately walked to the steps, sat on the bench, leaned on Milwaukee’s associate pitching coach Walker McKinven before receiving attention from medical officials.

After a brief pause in the game for Adames to receive medical attention, he walked to the team’s clubhouse. Sophia Minnaert of Bally Sports Wisconsin later reported that Adames received a scan and exited American Family Field to go to the hospital for additional testing and evaluation.

The Giants defeated the Brewers, 15–1, to earn their second win of the four-game series. Following the loss, Brewers manager Craig Counsell told reporters that Adames did not sustain any fractures.

He also said Adames remained “alert and responsive the whole time” and that he would remain at the hospital overnight with the anticipation of him being released tomorrow morning.

Brewers pitcher Freddy Peralta, who has been close friends with Adames for nearly eight years, told reporters that he planned to visit the shortstop in the hospital on Friday night. Peralta also said that all his teammates were concerned about the shortstop's current health.

“It’s hard to see somebody that you love having that moment,” Peralta told reporters, per Bally Sports Wisconsin.

Through 51 games this season, Adames has slashed .289/.384/.673 while registering nine home runs, 27 RBIs and four stolen bases.
