Tottenham Hotspur’s expensive new-look squad gets its first competitive test when they open their 2026–27 Premier League campaign against Brentford at the Gtech Community Stadium.
Brentford were comfortably the better side last season, finishing ninth and narrowly missing out on European soccer. They scored 55 goals from an impressive 59.93 xG, suggesting their attacking output was no fluke. Tottenham, meanwhile, finished 17th and barely avoided relegation, posting just 42.53 xG, one of the league’s lowest totals.
Yet the head-to-head record from last season favored Spurs. Tottenham won 2-0 in one meeting, while the other finished goalless, and they also completed the double over Brentford the season before.
With a heavily revamped squad, an ambitious new manager in Roberto De Zerbi and enormous pressure to improve, Spurs will head into this one believing they have something to prove.
