Brentford vs Newcastle United

17:08

The full-time whistle blows at the Gtech Community Stadium as Brentford continue their superb form at home with their first ever Premier League win over Newcastle. The encounter was played in awful conditions of heavy rain and strong winds due to Storm Darragh, but Thomas Frank’s side showed their class to take all three points. A frenetic opening saw both sides score in the first 12 minutes, with Bryan Mbeumo’s opener quickly cancelled out by the in form Alexander Isak. Yoane Wissa restored the lead for the hosts following a mistake by Harvey Barnes, but the former Leicester City winger atoned with a fine finish. However, the Bees wrapped up the win in the second half thanks to Nathan Collins’ left-footed finish and Kevin Schade’s injury time goal. The 4-2 win ensures Brentford have now won seven and drawn one of their eight home league games this season. Despite the narrow defeat in west London, Eddie Howe’s side had a superior xG with 1.20, while the home side had an xG of 1.07. Thanks for reading!

Newcastle’s Harvey Barnes has scored seven goals in his last 13 Premier League appearances in London, while he’s netted away at Brentford in each of the last two campaigns, for Leicester in 2022-23 and the Magpies on the final day of last season. Meanwhile, Newcastle make the long trip to the capital level on points with their opponents but one place below them due to goal difference. The Magpies come into today’s game in good form having snatched a late draw against league leaders Liverpool in a thrilling 3-3 stalemate. The late equaliser from Fabian Schar on Wednesday night meant Eddie Howe’s side have lost just once in their last six matches. Despite sitting in 12th place, the Geordies only sit three points off the top five, leaving the winner of today’s showdown with a brilliant opportunity to climb into the European spots heading into the festive period.

Brentford vs Newcastle United

Hosts Brentford come into today’s encounter against Newcastle aiming to bounce back from their 3-1 midweek defeat to out of form Aston Villa. Thomas Frank’s side have struggled on the road this season, picking up just one point from seven matches, however their home form has been greatly positive. The Bees remain one of three undefeated teams on home turf in the Premier League this season (alongside Arsenal and Brighton), but have scored more goals (22) and earned more points (19) at home than anyone else. In fact, no team in Europe's top five leagues has scored as many home league goals as the west London outfit.
