Brentford troll Jesse Marsch after Leeds United boss sent off during Premier League defeat

Brentford’s social media team took a swipe at Jesse Marsch after he was sent off by referee Robert Jones. With the scoreline at 3-1, the Leeds United manager cut an animated figure on the touchline when his side were denied a penalty.

Crysencio Summerville was brought down in the box by Aaron Hickey but VAR decided against signalling for the referee to take a second look. However, moments later, the Bees were awarded a free-kick in the middle of the park for a soft foul - which incensed Marsch further.

Jones dismissed the Leeds boss for his behaviour and, unless an appeal is successful, he will now miss the home clash against Nottingham Forest next Monday. The decision proved to be a turning point in the game as Brentford coasted to a destructive 5-2 victory.

It did not take long for the incident to become a hot topic on social media. On Twitter, the Bees’ admin added salt to Marsch’s wounds by poking fun at his sending off.

Brentford posted: “Jesse Marsch has spent more time on the pitch than in his technical area this afternoon. He's now spending the rest of the afternoon in the stands as he's sent off.”

The American blasted VAR after the game for the lack of consistency between the two penalty incidents. Marsch said post-match: "I was calm even when Brentford were given the penalty, even though I didn't see it right away.

“Normally, when the phrasing is 'clear and obvious' and it takes that long to watch it and look at it then for me, it's not clear and obvious.

"Then there's an action where I think Summerville is actually more of an egregious foul and it doesn't even get looked at for VAR, I'm clearly dissatisfied. I've got to figure out how to have discussions with the league or with referees to help understand how some decisions get made."
