Brentford rocked by potential big injury blow ahead of Liverpool game

Ivan Toney was stretchered off the pitch towards the end of Brentford's 2-0 win against West Ham this evening - just three days before his side welcome Liverpool to the Gtech Community Stadium.

Toney opened the scoring at the London Stadium tapping home from close range following a trademark long throw from Mathias Jensen that was not deal with.

A simple finish but one that marked the Brentford talisman's second goal since the return of Premier League football and his 12th goal of the season across all competitions. Thomas Frank's side have been reliant on their striker's form all season, with no other scoring more than three league goal.

Brentford doubled their lead shortly before half-time and maintained it throughout, eventually cruising to another three points and heaping pressure on David Moyes.

But misfortune struck for the London club and Toney, when he left the pitch on a stretcher in injury-time. The 26-year-old leapt high to defend a West Ham corner and looked to have landed awkwardly with what appeared to be a knee problem.

The striker was writhing in pain and spent a long while receiving attention on the pitch, before eventually being taken off on a stretcher.

Brentford welcome Liverpool to the Community Stadium on Monday, the pair's first game of 2023.
