Brentford await Brennan Johnson transfer decision as January deadline approaches

Time is ticking for Brentford to bring new players to the club, as they have until Monday to do so with what is a very depleted squad at the moment.

They have already added 'keeper Jonas Lössl to their ranks this window, but fans have become agitated with the lack of transfer activity this window. Many have been calling for a new right back in particular, as well as wide forwards.

One player they have been linked with in this window is Nottingham Forest winger Brennan Johnson, who has also attracted interest from other Premier League clubs in Leeds and Newcastle.

We spoke to Nottingham Forest correspondent Sarah Clapson from the Nottingham Post for the latest on the 20-year-old and what Brentford could potentially expect should he join the Bees this window.

What is the latest right now regarding Brennan Johnson?

He's a wanted man, there's no denying that. Forest are certainly having their resolve tested.

Previously, the general suggestion was that he wasn't for sale this month. Indeed, Steve Cooper said after Tuesday night's win over Barnsley that he was "sure" Johnson would be staying at Forest.

Brentford seem to have put a lot of money on the table, though, so Forest have been given a decision to make. And the Bees aren't the only ones interested - he has a long line of suitors.

Does Forest's current league position stand them in good favour over Johnson staying?

It's really difficult to say.

By all accounts, he is happy at Forest and enjoying playing under Steve Cooper. I don't think he's knocking on the door, trying to engineer a move.

But no matter where you are in the table, particularly in the Championship, every player has his price.

Forest will certainly be well aware how valuable Johnson would be to their promotion push. But they have to weigh that up against the kind of money which is being talked about.

What is his best position?

He's pretty versatile, which is a great strength. Where he's been at his best for Forest this season, though, is on the right flank.

He has so much pace that he causes defenders no end of problems when he gets going down there. And he has developed a great understanding with Djed Spence, who has been playing at right-back or right wing-back.

If he was to come to Brentford, what can fans expect?

A young player with massive potential.

Forest have a fine reputation for bringing through great young talent, and he's one of the brightest. He is already a star at the City Ground, but he has very much got the world at his feet. He's destined to play in the Premier League one day - Forest fans are just hoping it's with the Reds.

His speed, with and without the ball, is frightening and gives the opposition nightmares. But he's also got fantastic ability and chips in with goals and assists.

He's such a key player for Forest and has been in brilliant form so far this season, quickly becoming one of the first names on the team-sheet.
