Police have released details of how the stabbing of two boys aged 12 and 13 unfolded at a school in Brent, as the 13-year-old suspect in the attack was confirmed to be a former pupil.
In an update on Wednesday afternoon, police also confirmed the teenage suspect was arrested after being seen at a mosque hours after the stabbings.
Detective Chief Superintendent Helen Flanagan from Counter-Terrorism Policing London said the suspect, a former pupil and British national, arrived at Kingsbury High School in Bacon Lane, Brent, at around 12.30pm on Tuesday.
He went up to a first floor classroom and sprayed a substance towards a pupil, who was not injured and the liquid is not thought to have been noxious.
The suspect then stabbed a 13-year-old boy in the classroom, before he running along a hallway and down a flight of stairs. The suspect then stabbed a 12-year-old boy on the ground floor, before fleeing the school.
Police have said the two victims injuries are “thankfully not life-threatening” and they remain in hospital in a “stable” condition.
Counter-terror police have been leading the probe, but the attack has not been declared a terrorist incident “at this time”.

Police not looking for anyone else in connection with incident

The boy 13, was arrested soon after 4.15pm on Tuesday, around four hours after the attack.
Detective Chief Superintendent Flanagan said: “In terms of the suspect, we are aware there is much speculation online around the nationality and ethnicity. We can confirm that he is a British national who was born in and lives in the UK.
“We are particularly mindful that this is a child, however, and we will not be releasing or confirming any further details about him that could risk his identification.
“The suspect remains in custody, and our focus is now to gather as much evidence as possible to help progress the investigation.
“I can also confirm that, at this stage, we are not looking for anyone else in connection with this incident. Based on what we know now it appears he was acting alone.”
Police analysing 'large amounts of CCTV footage'

Detective Chief Superintendent Flanagan said in her briefing this afternoon: “We have also recovered a large amount of CCTV footage from the school, we have seized devices and we are carrying various forensic enquiries, so there are a number of strands to the investigation that are being progressed at this time.”
Three premises searched and up to 40 witnesses interviewed

Chief Superintendent Helen Flanagan told a press briefing on Wednesday evening: “We’ve carried out searches across three premises, two addresses connected to the suspect as well as the mosque where the suspect was arrested.
“We have around 30 to 40 witnesses whom we’re interviewing and getting accounts from.
“This is an extremely delicate process given the young ages of many of the witnesses from the school and we are using highly trained and specialist officers to carry out these interviews.”

Janti Kalyan, 60, added his grandchildren said the attacker was wearing the school's uniform. He went on: "My grandchildren are traumatised."

He told The Sun: “I was going between sites at lunchtime and when I got to the lower school, I was told I couldn’t come in.

Alex Thomas said: “I am very sorry to inform you that there was a serious incident at school today in which two students were stabbed. Our thoughts and best wishes are with our students and their families at this incredibly difficult time.
“We would also like to thank the emergency services for their swift response and our staff for the calm and dedicated way they supported students throughout the day. "I’m Detective Chief Superintendent Luke Williams and I’m responsible for policing in north west London. I’m here today to provide an update in relation to an incident which took place at Kingsbury High School in Brent earlier.
"Officers were called to Bacon Lane at around 12:40hrs following a report that a 13-year-old boy had been stabbed. Armed and local officers were on the scene within 13 minutes of the 999 call.
"On arrival, we were made aware that a 12-year-old boy had also been stabbed and both boys have been taken to hospital .
"We await an update on how they are, though we understand their conditions to be serious. The thoughts of everyone at the Met are with them and their loved ones, and we want to thank the doctors and nurses who are providing the boys with urgent care.
"The suspect - who we believe to be 13 - left the scene following the stabbing.
"After urgent enquiries our officers arrested him and also recovered a weapon which we believe to have been used in the stabbing.

Simon Theodorou, a martial arts teacher, said his daughter had been in the same classroom just an hour before the attack.
He told Metro: “She told me a kid climbed into the school because they have good security over there. He had to go over a wall. He was looking for pupils he knew.
‘Apparently, he pepper-sprayed a classroom. One of the pupils saw what was happening and pulled a fire alarm. He chased him and stabbed them in the neck. I’m not too sure what happened to the other boy.’
He added: “I just ran a seminar on knife mitigation and how to survive a knife injury, it is all too timely.
“To be honest, all youngsters are carrying weapons; they don’t realise what happens when you pull a knife and the repercussions. I’m shaken as well; it could have been my child.”

Police said they were called to Bacon Lane, which is where the lower school is based, and where pupils aged 12 and 13 would be expected to be studying.

Kingsbury High School has academy status and provides an education for nearly 2,000 children age 11 to 18 over its two sites.

One boy taken to major trauma centre
Tuesday 10 February 2026 16:33 , Matt WattsOne of the schoolboys who was stabbed has been taken to a major trauma centre, the London Ambulance Service has confirmed.
The extent of their injuries still remain unclear at this time.
A LAS spokesperson said: “We were called at 12.41pm today (10 February) to reports of a stabbing on Bacon Lane, NW9.
“We sent resources to the scene including ambulance crews, incident response officers an advanced paramedic, a paramedic from our tactical response unit and a clinical team manager. We also dispatched a trauma team in a car from London’s Air Ambulance.
“We treated two patients in total. We took one patient to hospital and the other as a priority to a major trauma centre.”
Police 'doing everything they can to locate suspect'
Tuesday 10 February 2026 16:24 , Matt WattsDetective Chief Superintendent Luke Williams, who leads policing in north west London, has said “significant resources” have been placed in the area” as they hunt the teenage suspect in the double-stabbing.
He said: “We recognise that this incident will cause considerable concern within the community. We want to reassure local students, parents and local residents that we have deployed significant resources to the area and are doing everything we can to locate the suspect.
“Our thoughts are with the injured boys and I want to thank the paramedics and doctors who are providing them both with care.
“We’ll provide further updates when we can.”
School on lockdown as police hunt suspect
Tuesday 10 February 2026 16:22 , Matt WattsKingsbury High School has released a statement in which it says it is not possible to enter or leave the site amid the ongoing police repsonse.
The statement reads: “We want to make you aware that there has been a serious incident at Kingsbury High School today. We are working closely with the relevant authorities and following all necessary procedures.
“The situation is now under control, and we have already spoken directly with the parents and carers of the students involved.
“We understand that this will be concerning. At present, it is not possible to enter or leave the school site while the response continues. We will provide further updates as soon as we are able to share confirmed information.”
