Brendan Rodgers Tottenham 'nod and wink' theory explored by Gary Neville amid Celtic job respect

Gary Neville reckons Brendan Rodgers could be lined up as the next Tottenham manager despite being fired by Leicester City.

The Sky Sports pundit has offered a ‘nod and a wink’ theory that the pieces might fall into place for the former Celtic boss and that he could take over at Spurs in the summer with Antonio Conte dismissed last week after his remarkable rant against his players.

Neville believes that Spurs chief Daniel Levy has been impressed with the work done by Rodgers at Parkhead as well as Anfield and the King Power stadium, even although he has left the Foxes fighting in the Premier League relegation zone with 10 matches left to play.

The former Manchester United defender told Sky Sports: “With Brendan now mutually agreeing to leave, has it been that there’s a little nod and wink that he could get the Tottenham job?

“We don’t know and we’re speculating - don’t think, by the way, there’s any inside track from me here, there absolutely isn’t - but you put two and two together in football sometimes and think that could happen.

“We know Daniel Levy in the past has courted Brendan Rodgers so we don’t know.

“It could happen this week. We don’t know if that would be right for Tottenham, he’s a good coach, Brendan Rodgers, done some good jobs at Liverpool and Leicester, really good jobs, and at Celtic as well.”
