Brendan Rodgers leading Celtic to 56 titles before Rangers will see fans forget exit says Neil Lennon

Neil Lennon reckons Brendan Rodgers will be fully forgiven if Celtic can reach 56 titles before Rangers.

The new Hoops boss is back at Parkhead for a second spell after the Scottish champions moved to secure his services following Ange Postecoglou's departure to the English Premier League with Tottenham. He signed off with a Treble after two hugely successful years with his playing style and work in the transfer market regularly praised.

Rodgers himself is no stranger to trophy success in Glasgow with his first stint proving a huge hit. The only downside for the support was the way in which he left the club for Leicester City with a section of the fans still not ready to forgive the 50-year-old.

However, Celtic hero and ex-boss Lennon reckons reaching 56 before Rangers and overtaking them with titles in the next three seasons as part of his three-year contract will see that core forgive him.

He said: “Brendan has signed a three-year contract, and if he can win the league in each of those seasons then Celtic will have overtaken Rangers with 56 titles.

“That’s an incentive for the board, the management and all the players.

“It will be just one more thing which we have over them, added to the European Cup win, the Invincible Treble, the Quadruple Treble and two nine-in-a-rows.

“So if Brendan can reach 56 before Rangers then the section of the support who are still wary of him would forget all about the fact he didn’t stay, as they used to sing, for ten in a row.

“He’ll see that as a challenge and he’ll embrace it.

“You want to be pushed because it keeps you and your players on their toes.”
