Brendan Rodgers is the man for Celtic if Ange departs and all would be forgiven if he delivered ninth Treble - Hotline

Ange Postecoglou led Celtic into the history books with a world beating eighth Treble as the Hoops made it a clean sweep by lifting the Scottish Cup against Inverness. But could it be the Aussie’s last act as Hoops boss?

That’s the big question on every Celtic fans’ mind as they revel in another year of domestic dominance while Spurs prepare to move for their manager. Kenny Wilson, Moffat, said: “So it’s a world record treble for Scotland’s most successful club. It was far from a great performance but the result was never in doubt and Caley Thistle can be proud of their efforts as well. Five trebles in seven seasons is truly remarkable and something that won’t be done again. If that’s Ange Postecoglou’s last game which it looks like it is then good luck and thanks for the memories.”

Michael Emonds. Northampton, said: “Well done Celtic for winning the treble and congratulations to Inverness for making a game of it. It looks like Ange is on his way so a big thanks for five out of six trophies won in his short stop over in Glasgow. Could it be welcome back to St Brendan of the Moonlight Flit who has been a guest of Celtic recently? Watch this space!”

Henry Moffat, Stirling, added: “What a great time to be a Celtic supporter. Whatever Ange decides he will still be a Celtic legend and we will still be in the strongest position in our history. A world record treble with our most valuable squad ever and heading to guaranteed Champions League riches while already having a £50m plus advantage over our rivals. Let’s live it up.”

Edward Fraser emailed: “If Ange leaves Celtic all I can say is thank you for the past two years you turned round a club that could have slipped behind a resurgent Rangers instead you made us top dogs again and delivered an eighth treble. If he moves on then good luck for the future.”

David Bryce, Troon, said: “If Ange goes he can leave Celtic with his head held high. He will never progress us in Europe, we need a more tactically astute coach. Scott Brown should be nowhere near the hot seat. The board cannot make such a mess of it the way they did whist chasing Eddie Howe! The new manager should be identified already.”

Meanwhile Paul McArdle, Gourock, said: “Apparently big Ange has been found out and Beale has Ange running scared because Rangers won a dead rubber at home against a shadow Celtic side. That was Beale’s only win out of five derbies! If Ange goes Celtic should bring back Brendan Rogers because if he bags a ninth treble all will be forgiven.”

But Gary Stevenson, Newtonhill, said: “I bet the Spurs fans cannot wait to get Postecoglou on board after watching his Celtic team struggle to get past Inverness. The We Never Stop Mantra is a joke as Daniel Levy is about to find out. Harry Kane will leave as soon as he signs as Spurs are making a huge mistake. Get your money on him being sacked before Christmas.”

Onto Rangers and David Wilkie, Millport, had a message for anyone doubting Michael Beale’s signing strategy after the free transfer arrivals of Kieran Dowell and Dujon Sterling.

David said: “It’s interesting to note just how many Celtic fans purport to be knowledgeable about the financial dealings within the confines of Ibrox. Beale's edict to acquire players by way of those out of contract and free transfers would appear to be entirely prudent to me. Spending vast amounts of money should not be considered to be a guarantee of success, despite the range of talent, as they need to fit the profile of the club, and the style of football required . Look to Chelsea for a simple example.”

Robert Hunter, Govan, wishes Beale would look much closer to home. He said: “Players coming through the Rangers academy must be sick of young players being brought in from other leagues and pushing boys like Adam Devine further down the pecking order. It's no wonder that the exceptional young talents are moving to EPL teams as soon as they can sign a professional contract. We seem to be bringing on players for other teams but not getting back the cost of their development. The academy appears to me to be a waste.”
