Brendan Rodgers has Raphael Varane theory after controversial foul during Man United vs Leicester

Brendan Rodgers thinks Raphael Varane 'used his experience' to get Leicester's goal disallowed against Manchester United.

United drew 1-1 with Leicester at Old Trafford on Saturday evening and the game was delicately poised in the second half. Fred's goal immediately cancelled out Kelechi Iheanacho's and both sides searched for a winner as the game reached the latter stages.

With just 10 minutes to play, Leicester thought they had won it when James Maddison found the back of the net, but VAR reviewed the goal and the effort was eventually disallowed. Iheanacho was deemed to have fouled Varane in the lead up to the goal.

Rodgers, speaking after the game, thinks Varane's 'experience' helped the on-field decision to be overturned.

"Raphael Varane has used his experience, he gets the contact and goes down," Rodgers said to Sky Sports.

"There were opportunities for them to clear it but we were deserving of that. Every week we are seeing this type of actions, we felt we deserved to win the game. We had one in the season when Ayoze Perez was sent off.

"That one was similar, the ball gets away he has to make a challenge. We got the yellow. It was a good performance away here, disappointed to not win and that is always a good sign.

"The football was very good but we passed it well a lot of the time and got into some good areas. But for a decision, we would have won the game."
