Brendan Rodgers confirms Paulo Bernado signing as he issues transfer update

Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers confirmed that Paulo Bernardo will be joining the club and explained why the midfielder will likely be the last signing of the transfer window.

The Benfica playmaker is set to become a Parkhead player on a loan deal from the Portuguese giants.

In recent days the Hoops have signed winger Luis Palma on a five-year deal and defender Nat Phillips on loan from Liverpool until January.

And the 50-year-old played down any chance of more players coming in before the deadline.

He said: "I'm not so sure. I don't think there will be many more coming in. Again a young player (Bernardo) that's coming in with potential and that will hopefully be confirmed.

"He comes in with the opportunity to see him and give us more strength in depth in that midfield area. We will see how he develops."

Meanwhile, Celtic have reportedly rejected a bid from Italian side Torino for youth prospect Rocco Vata.

The forward has been the subject of interest from a number of clubs this summer but so far Celtic have knocked back all approaches for the 18-year-old.

And the Serie A team are the latest to have a bid knocked back, according to the Daily Record who state the Hoops were offered "£550,000 with significant add-ons" for the Republic of Ireland youth international.

Celtic turned down the approach despite Vata being said to be keen to explore the option.

The Lennoxtown academy graduate made a few appearances last season for the first-team after impressing with the B team.

However, he is yet to feature in the current campaign.
