Brendan Rodgers Celtic admission interview resurfaces with ex-Hoops boss favourite for shock return

A Brendan Rodgers interview admitting he would 'absolutely' go back to Celtic has resurfaced as he tops the betting market for a second stint in Glasgow.

Ange Postecoglou is on the way out with the 57-year-old heading for the riches of the English Premier League with Tottenham. Reports earlier today state the Hoops gaffer has reached a 'verbal agreement' and details over his contract situation at his new club have emerged. Celtic have since given the EPL side permission to talk to their Treble-winning boss.

Daniel Levy has been on the hunt for Antonio Conte's permanent successor for months in North London but he now looks to have landed his man in the shape of Postecoglou. He lifted the Scottish Cup at Hampden on Saturday evening to complete his domestic clean sweep and land the one trophy that escaped his grasp last season as he made it five trophy successes out of six in his two seasons.

A departure from Parkhead would force Celtic into the managerial market as they seek a new man to take over the helm. A potential Rodgers return would spark debate across the fan base with many still unhappy at the way he left the club for Leicester City in 2019.

But the man himself has previously admitted he would has no hesitation in a second stint.

Speaking back in 2019, he said: "When I left Liverpool I had opportunities to go elsewhere but I felt at that time at Celtic that it was a great opportunity to go in.

"The club were keen to bring me in and they were in a moment where Rangers were close - they were getting promoted - and I went in and created hopefully a really good base.

"That challenge may come again because it was a real challenge to go in and that challenge may come in the future and I would have absolutely no hesitation going back.

"Incredible club but like everything in life it's just about timing.

"Whether I would be received back or not is a different story. But would I go back to Celtic? Absolutely."
