Brendan Rodgers back at Celtic as former boss takes in Dundee United game at Parkhead

Brendan Rodgers is back at Celtic Park almost three years after his sudden departure resulted in a furious backlash from fans.

The Northern Irishman led his boyhood heroes to seven domestic trophies on the spin, including an unprecedented Invincible treble in his first season.

But there was outrage at the manner of the way he left the club midway through the 2018/19 season.

Rodgers took the Leicester City job and has won the FA Cup and they say that time is a great healer.

That certainly seemed to be the case as the 49-year-old was spotted posing for photos with many punters who were happy to see him.

The Foxes boss was then snapped in the directors box, alongside wife Charlotte, for the Scottish Premiership clash against the Tangerines.

He returned on a day when Celtic paid tribute to former boss Wim Jansen and Rodgers has remained invested to his former club by attending memorial services for club legends in recent years.

England’s top flight has taken a mini break with Leicester City back in action against Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup next weekend.

Rodgers said after he left that he would like to think he could return to Parkhead to work again one day as he appeared to underestimate the feelings towards him from many fans.

He said at the time: “I would be hugely, hugely disappointed if I never could go back there.

“I would be incredibly disappointed if I never could after everything that I’ve given.

“I loved every single second of being there. When it calms down in maybe 10 years, I could maybe go back to Celtic.”
