Brendan Gleeson has been named among the top ten actors of 2022 by the New York Times.
In a diverse list, the Harry Potter star is given the nod alongside Michelle Yeoh, Daniel Kaluuya, and Michelle Williams.
Both Brendan Gleeson and Colin Farrell are generating Oscar buzz around the Banshees of Inisherin, but the older actor’s performance has been singled out by the US publication.

Gleeson is credited with bringing “gravity and gloom” along with “levity and surprise” to Martin McDonagh’s “deceptively breezy tale of a friendship gone sour in an Irish village”.
“He’s the most serious person in the film, and the most mischievous,” says the publication praising his “exquisitely light touch” in front of the camera.
It added: “Harry Potter fans will know Gleeson as Mad-Eye Moody, a somewhat chaotic Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher.
“Just about anyone who has watched a movie in the past 30 years will remember seeing this prolific character actor, who has appeared in action movies, in a Shakespeare adaptation, in Paddington 2.
“His sandpaper brogue and weathered features are impossible to forget."
Michelle Williams is included in the New York Times list for her turn in Steven Spielberg’s The Fabelmans, which is loosely based on the director’s family.
The publication notes that Michelle Yeoh, who is also on the top ten list, becomes a “cosmos of her own” in her new movie, Everything Everywhere All At Once.
It hinges around an aging Chinese immigrant swept up in an insane adventure, in which she alone can save the world by exploring other universes connecting with the lives she could have led.
Brendan Gleeson has been feted in New York this year with the actor hosting Saturday Night Live alongside Colin Farrell earlier in the autumn.
He will next be heard as the voice of Paddy in the animated version of Roddy Doyle's book, A Greyhound of A Girl.
Chrleeen McKenna and Rosaleen Linehan will also put their voice to the film version of Doyle's story on four generations of women traveling on a midnight car journey.
Gleeson has won a primetime Emmy for his turn as Winston Churchill in the mini-series Into The Storm.
He is also set to star in the Joker: Folie á Deux which is the sequel to the Joker.
He will star alongside Lady Gaga, Joaquin Phoenix, and Catherine Keener in the fantasy movie.
While Gleeson has been nominated for several Golden Globes and BAFTAs, he is expected to be a serious contender for an Academy award nomination.
Colin Farrell is being touted by Variety as a clear favourite to land a Best Actor nomination alongside Brendan Fraser for his role in The Whale.
Brendan Gleeson is tipped by the Hollywood bible to get a Best Supporting Actor nomination as well as his co-star Barry Keoghan.
The film centres around two lifelong friends who find themselves at an impasse when one abruptly ends their relationship, with alarming consequences for both of them.
Gleeson and Keoghan are tipped to be joined by Ke Huy Quan for his turn in Everything Everywhere All at Once and Eddie Redmayne for The Good Nurse.
